The new semester is just around the corner and while there’s a lot to get done before the first day of classes, I wanted to remind our faculty members to publish their Canvas courses.
By default, all Canvas courses are unpublished; meaning, that only the professor assigned to that particular course can see the course. The professor must publish the course in order for the students to be able to access it.
Two things to also remember:
#1. The purpose of not having your course published is so that you can make changes and update your course without the students noticing those changes and receiving email notifications. ONCE YOU PUBLISH your course, you CANNOT unpublished it.
#2. Also by default, Canvas has a put a start date for every course. The start date is August 25th at 5:00 pm. If you publish your course before that date, your students will still not have access to the course. You can change the start date by going to the course Settings.
If you have other questions please give us a call or email us. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
